There are a few things taking place over the next couple weeks. The Bark Park is still receiving some much needed maintenance work from both Erie County Parks and Friends volunteers. The plan is to get the Bark Park all cleaned up heading into the winter season. An effort that will hopefully payoff with the Bark Park being in much better shape Spring 2015, than we experienced this year. Erie County has dedicated work to cleaning up the fallen trees and trimmed limbs and is working closely with the Friends of Ellicott to keep the Bark Park in operation. The summer saw the addition of the Best Friends Tribute Garden and work on the Garden in the Round was the project of a small group of helping hands from People, Inc. We also have a small group of volunteers helping to add stone to the low spots on the walking trail. There are also efforts on burdock removal and cleaning up the wildflower area. All the folks who enjoy the Bark Park need to work together to keep the Island clean and safe. At a minimum, people must cleanUP after their dog(s). There needs to be a zero poop on the ground tolerance, its a serious health issue.
There is also an upcoming effort to get memberships renewed for 2015 and secure ongoing operation of the Bark Park. There is a hotdog roast planned for Sept 27th and a CoffeeHound day planned for Nov 2nd, with hot cider and donuts, both events providing an opportunity to renew membership or sign on as a new Friend of Ellicott Island Bark Park. The annual membership meeting is planned for 1PM in the large shelter on Nov 2nd, following the CoffeeHound. Feel free to leave comments or suggestions on the Contact Us of this website or in the suggestion box at each event in the park.
